Dental crowns can perform a wide range of functions, making them one of the top restorative dentistry treatments. If you have a weakened, cracked, or severely decayed tooth, a crown can restore your oral function and the beauty of your smile. Traditional dental crowns are created using models and impressions, which can cause the process to take weeks.
The doctors at Providence Prosthodontics Dental Group utilize advanced dental technology to provide same-day crowns fabricated here at our Orange, CA, practice. Made from digital impressions of your tooth, our same-day crowns will blend flawlessly with your smile. A crown is a custom-made restoration that is placed over a damaged tooth. Because the restoration will completely cover the top and sides of your tooth, it can restore even severe damage or extensive decay. If you qualify for a same-day crown, our team will plan your restoration using CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) technology.
First, your dentist will reshape your damaged tooth. Then, he or she will use an intraoral scanner and cone beam imaging to create three-dimensional digital impressions of your tooth. The images will be uploaded into a computerized design program. Our team will then design a crown that matches the look and size of your natural tooth. You can even watch this process on the computer screen to stay fully informed about your care.
“With same-day crowns, you can complete your treatment in just a few hours. You will not have to worry about follow-up visits or wearing a temporary restoration.”
Once you and your dentist are both happy with the design, our in-office milling machine will fabricate your same-day crown based off of the impressions of your tooth. Working much like a 3-D printer, the machine will generate a crown from a solid block of material. Typically, we will use IPS e.max®, which offers outstanding durability and a natural color and sparkle. In contrast to other types of porcelain, IPS e.max® can yield thinner crowns that form a stronger bond with teeth. Once your crown is finished, your dentist will attach it during the same appointment.
All of our restorations can provide valuable benefits to your oral health and function. Nevertheless, our same-day crowns offer unique advantages. These include:
Most patients who are need of a crown will qualify for same-day restorations. Our dentists will carefully evaluate your oral health to make sure that this type of crown is right for you. Contact our practice today to learn more.
